Retirement Planning in Red Bank
We turn your 401(k), IRAs, pension and Social Security into a written income plan. You see which account pays for what, in what order, and how taxes affect each withdrawal. You also see our scope and fees on paper before any work begins.

What retirement planning covers
Saving for retirement and spending in retirement are two different problems. While you work, the job is to fill accounts. Once paychecks stop, you need a withdrawal plan, and the choices compound. The age you claim Social Security, whether you take a pension as a lump sum or an annuity, and the order you tap taxable, tax-deferred and Roth money all change how long your savings last and how much tax you pay along the way.
We build that plan with you and put it in writing. Before we start, you get a written outline of what we will review, what we will deliver and how we are paid, so there are no add-ons later. Clients come to us from Red Bank, Middletown, Holmdel and the towns around them, and we meet at our office or by phone and video.
What the work includes
Income gap analysis
We compare your expected spending with guaranteed income from Social Security and any pension. The difference is what your portfolio has to cover each year, and that number drives every other decision.
Social Security claiming strategy
Benefits grow for each year you wait past full retirement age, up to 70. For married couples, we model both spouses' claiming ages together, because the higher earner's choice also sets the survivor benefit.
Withdrawal sequencing
We lay out which accounts to draw from first and when. The goal is to keep you in lower tax brackets over time and manage required minimum distributions before they push income higher than you need.
Roth conversion review
The years between retiring and starting RMDs are often a low-income window. We test whether converting part of a traditional IRA to Roth in those years lowers lifetime taxes, and we show the math.
Pension and annuity decisions
A lump sum gives you control and flexibility. A monthly annuity removes longevity risk. We compare the two using your health, your spouse's needs and the rest of your plan. We are licensed to sell life insurance, so we can also explain how commercial annuities and permanent policies work and when they do not fit.
Portfolio positioning for withdrawals
We are Series 7 and SIE licensed, which covers the securities side of a retirement portfolio. We set aside near-term spending money so a market drop early in retirement does not force you to sell stocks at a low point.

Signs retirement planning should start now
- Your last working year is a decade away or less
- In this stretch, decisions about catch-up contributions, Roth versus pre-tax savings and your target retirement age still have time to make a real difference.
- You have accounts scattered across employers
- Old 401(k)s, a 403(b), an IRA and a brokerage account make it hard to see your true allocation or total fees. We pull them into one picture first.
- You do not know when to claim Social Security
- Claiming at 62 instead of 70 can permanently lower your monthly check by a large share. That decision deserves numbers, not a guess.
- A pension election form is on your desk
- Lump sum and annuity choices are often irreversible. Have the comparison done before you sign.
- RMDs are coming and you have a large IRA
- Big required distributions can raise your tax bracket and your Medicare premiums. Planning a few years ahead gives you more options.
How we work with you
- 1
Introductory meeting
We start with your goals, your target retirement date and the accounts you hold today. We explain our approach, and together we decide whether our services match what you are looking for.
- 2
Written scope and fees
Before any analysis, we send a written outline of what the plan covers and how we are compensated. If a recommendation involves a product that pays us a commission, we tell you in writing.
- 3
Data gathering and modeling
We collect statements, Social Security estimates, pension documents and tax returns. Then we run income scenarios across different claiming ages, market returns and spending levels.
- 4
Plan review
We walk you through the written plan line by line: monthly income by source, withdrawal order, tax estimates and the risks still on the table. You keep the document.
- 5
Annual updates
Tax law, markets and health change. We revisit the plan each year and before major events such as selling property, a spouse leaving work or the first RMD.
What affects the cost
Retirement planning is priced by the work involved, not by a flat package. We explain which of these factors apply to you and put the fee in writing before we begin. Nothing gets added without your agreement.
- Number and type of accounts
- A single 401(k) and Social Security take less modeling than several IRAs, a brokerage account, inherited accounts and a deferred compensation plan.
- Pension and annuity complexity
- Comparing pension options with survivor elections, or reviewing existing annuity contracts with surrender schedules, adds analysis time.
- Business ownership
- Owners may have SEP or solo 401(k) plans, a business sale on the horizon, or income that varies year to year. Each adds moving parts to the income plan.
- Ongoing management or one-time plan
- A written plan you carry out yourself is scoped differently than a plan paired with ongoing investment management and yearly reviews.
Retirement planning questions
- How much do I need saved to retire?
- There is no single number. It depends on your annual spending, how much Social Security and any pension cover, and how many years the money has to last. We calculate the gap your savings must fill, then test whether your current balance and contributions can cover it through both strong and weak market years.
- Does New Jersey tax my retirement income?
- New Jersey does not tax Social Security benefits. Pension and IRA withdrawals can be taxable at the state level, though exclusions may apply depending on your age and income. We build state and federal taxes into the withdrawal order and coordinate with your tax preparer. Our tax management service goes deeper on this.
- I am already retired. Is it too late to plan?
- No. Many of the largest decisions come after the last paycheck: Roth conversions, RMD planning, how much to withdraw each year and how to adjust after a market drop. A plan built now can still lower lifetime taxes and reduce the chance of running short.
- Will you try to sell me an annuity?
- Only if it solves a specific problem in your plan, such as a gap in guaranteed income that Social Security and a pension leave open. If we recommend a product that pays us a commission, we disclose that in writing and show you the alternatives side by side. Many clients never need one.
- Can you work with my existing 401(k) at work?
- Yes. We can review the fund lineup and expense ratios in your current plan and recommend an allocation inside it. Your money does not have to move for us to build your retirement plan.
